Our Story

UnScripted is a youth-led movement dedicated to combating the overprescription of psychiatric drugs. It was created by 22 year old Marcus Orlando and psychiatrist Marissa Witt-Doerring in response to Gen Z's increasing reliance on medication and a culture of diagnosis. The movement is committed to advancing evidence-based alternatives to psychiatric drugs, with an emphasis on holistic well-being and sustainable recovery. Join us as we reshape mental health solutions and promote a happier and more human future.

More Information

What does UnScripted stand for?

We are a nonprofit fighting overprescription of psychiatric drugs to youth. We are fighting to change the dominant cultural narrative surrounding depression and anxiety. Feeling these emotions does not indicate a problem with the brain. The labels are overused, pathologize normal human emotions, and do nothing to help solve the underlying problem.

Should psychiatric medication be banned altogether?

No, we do not believe that psychiatric medication should be illegal. However, we believe that it is currently overprescribed and has been shown to be ineffective in aggregate over the long term. Therefore, we advocate for its usage to be sparing, closely monitored, and only when other options have proven futile.

Is this movement only for students/parents?

No, it’s for anyone who cares about youth emotional health and well-being. We encourage meaningful conversations about mental health with loved ones and spreading the word about the dangers of psychotropic medication. We promote a holistic approach to mental health treatment that prioritizes long-term wellness and solutions.
